It took me days to just finish this one test panel; how do people make entire webcomic pages in a week? They must be magicians.
Had a few different color schemes I played around with, but I’ll save that for a separate post.
[jean ralphio voice]: Inking is the ~WOOOORSSSTTTT~
Not the worst, however, is coloring, which I should’ve waited to do once I fixed the anatomy a little more, but this is mostly a test and I’m impatient.
Warmup gesture drawings, using this site for reference
30-60 seconds for each
The gang’s all here~
Sketched out a bunch more character passes in MangaStudio this time around for that webcomic idea. Body types and faces aren’t completely solidified yet, but I feel like I’m getting closer.
I also feel like Manga Studio is like 10x better for sketching than photoshop, and/or I was just in the zone tonight.
The Knight, the Mage, and the Engineer have journeyed for months, trained for years, all for this moment. This is the day that they finally receive their Pieces of Trinity, the fabled weapons destined to bestow upon them awesome power to defend their kingdom.
Except that they were beaten to the punch by three roommates in the normal world who found a series of really weird time-space rifts in their apartment, and apparently these Pieces of Trinity lock onto the first people that touch them.
Title is only a placeholder for now until I can think of something better.
Anyway, drew some quick mock-posters for the webcomic idea I’m thinking about. Will probably have to redraw Freddie holding the sword in the group shot as it definitely looks like she’s going to accidentally jab my boy, Emilio.
Almost forgot the link to the couch I referenced here
Sketching out characters I only have tentative plans for but am instantly in love with anyway
My six main characters for a webcomic idea I’m thinking about.
Basically, the three Fantasy Trope Characters (The Knight, the Mage, and the Engineer) are at the end of their journey for the trinity of fabled weapons they were Destined To Wield until my three real world characters accidentally stumble on them first, much to the dismay of the fantasy OG 3.
Also, the female Knight will probably end up being the mage, but I didn’t change the text yet for her character sketch page whoops.
I don’t know what to do with myself now that I’m done with school forever, so I’ve taken to retracing old artwork to keep myself busy/practice on my new cintiq while I think of the next big project to take on.
So many long noses and too-high eyes…
Being done with school means I can finally start playing brainstorming for Anomalies again. I’m thinking of making it a webcomic this time around, and overhauling my character designs. Everything’s still in the exploratory phase, though—I haven’t committed to anything just yet.
Some of my final cinematic moments, to varying degrees of completion. I still see a number of things I want to fix, but at some point I need to send this book to the printers, so…
Today’s the final day for submissions for my school’s spring art show, which of course means I’m scrambling last minute to put a whole bunch of boards together when it should’ve been done days ago.
2013-2014 was pretty much “The Year of Black Witches” for me.
Prop designs L to R for: Night Shade Club, Sweetpea’s living room, and Blackhollow club (along with some doors to brownstones underneath)
I remembered at the last minute “oh yeah—snake designs” for Blackhollow Club, so I might actually revisit some of those props, which were honestly getting kind of phoned-in by the end there.
Drawing expressions is always kind of interesting because 1) Consistency is very hard for me and 2) I usually just start drawing expressions without thinking too hard about what I’m trying to convey (don’t follow my example). For instance, I imagined Walter as a more subdued kind of person but I kept drawing these exaggerated (for me) expressions for him. So, his are a little more all over the board, while Sweetpea’s are more in line with her personality.
